Course DescripTions

In Creative Photo 1 students begin to explore the aesthetic foundations of art making using beginning photography techniques. Students will work to understand the difference in a snapshot and a fine art photograph. Student photographers will purposely create strong photographic composition. We will become familiar with the basic mechanics of a camera and learn the history of photography while exploring the work of famous photographers. Photographers are expected to contribute to discussions about their work and the photographs of their peers using an art criticism process to evaluate, explain, and measure artistic growth.

Creative Photo 2 students will continue to explore the aesthetic foundations of art-making using photography techniques. They will intentionally use specific photographic compositions and editing programs, such as Photoshop, to purposefully enhance their photographs and develop a focused body of work. Craftsmanship and quality are reflected in the surface of the prints, care of the materials, and expression of ideas and feelings. Student photographers in CP 2 are responsible for creating an art portfolio, showing their work in a public setting, and creating a solo presentation of their photographs at our annual PFHS gallery night.

Creative Photography 1 and 2 students use their personal cell phone camera to capture images.

Sculpture 1 students explore how form, space, and balance combine to create aesthetic structures. Sculpture students will use a variety of materials to create freestanding structures for public places. We will study well-known sculpture artists and analyze famous existing structures. Student artists in the sculpture studio focus on the use of safety procedures for tools and techniques.
